PHM Design, LLC - Developing Better Analytics

Hi, thanks for visiting PHM Design. I am Carl Byington, President and Founder. I specialize in designing innovative Prognostics and Health Management (PHM) analytics and Condition Based Maintenance (CBM) solutions.

Prior to founding PHM Design, I worked for Sikorsky Aircraft and Lockheed Martin, developing solutions for military and commercial aircraft. In the prior decade, as an Owner and Technical Director at Impact Technologies, LLC, I led PHM programs supporting F-35, unmanned vehicles, and shipboard applications. This was a natural evolution from my CBM Department Head responsibilities at the Penn State Applied Research Lab.

Educational Background

I was fortunate to do my Master thesis work as a rocket scientist at NASA Langley Research Center. My undergraduate degree was from the University of Pennsylvania in Mechanical Engineering, and my graduate work was joint with NASA and George Washington University in Aeronautical Engineering. In addition to my various roles with my companies, I have been the Lead Instructor for the annual “PHM/CBM Design” Short Course for over 15 years.
